“Mrs. Ridge's students are always excited to engage with her in classroom discussions. Her knack for getting the best and most out of her students is one of her many strengths. She inspires her students to think creatively and helps them to feel secure while sharing ideas in her classroom. Mrs. Ridge is an outstanding reading teacher and an asset to our school.”

MISSY RIDGE
4
th GRADE TEACHER
SULLIVAN ELEMENTARY SCHOOL

Education and Background:
Missy Ridge, a native of Sullivan and a Sullivan High School graduate, earned a bachelor’s degree in Education from Indiana State University. A knowledgeable and dedicated teacher, Mrs. Ridge began her career with Southwest School Corporation as an aide at Carlisle Elementary School and Graysville Elementary School, working with Title One, special education, and second grade. Additionally, Mrs. Ridge has served as a Gifted and Talented teacher, sixth grade teacher, and Sullivan Middle School athletic director. For the past 20 years, Mrs. Ridge has taught 4th grade at Sullivan Elementary School.

Why she enjoys teaching: “I knew I wanted to be a teacher from a young age,” explained Mrs. Ridge.  “As a teacher now, I love seeing a student's light bulb come on when the student finds the answer on their own and realizes they can do it.”  She adds, “I enjoy teaching them strategies and skills that will guide them in their learning and prepare them for the future.”

Favorite teaching moment: “There are so many of those special moments imbedded in my head that involve students and colleagues (past and present) I've worked with,” said Mrs. Ridge.  “I love the honesty of children and that no two days are alike.  Most important to me is the friendship with my 4th grade [teaching] partners.”

How Mrs. Ridge spends her free time: Mrs. Ridge enjoys traveling, reading, working in her flowers, summertime days around the pool with friends, and any time spent with her family and grandchildren.
